City Fresh Foods was the first food service company in the nation offering senior nutrition programs a variety of traditional and ethnic menus to choose from. City Fresh Foods has developed four core menus — Traditional, Caribbean, Russian and Italian – that meet the unique needs and preferences of seniors. City Fresh Foods partners with agencies and organizations that administer senior nutrition programs such as the Meals on Wheels and Title IIIC programs that service our elder population.
City Fresh Foods offers senior nutrition programs:
- Tasty and Nutritious Menus that Meet USDA Elder Nutrition Guidelines
- Individually Packaged Meals — Fresh or Frozen
- Congregate Style Meals
- Delivery Services to Program Sites or Directly to Seniors’ Homes
Every day, City Fresh Foods prepares, packages, and delivers over 1,800 meals to Boston’s seniors participating in the Meals on Wheels programs. Our kitchen staff arrives early every morning to begin preparing hot meals that are packaged and delivered the same day. Seniors who receive meals from City Fresh Foods are able to choose from one of our four menus — Traditional, Caribbean, Russian and Italian.
Home Delivered Meals are packaged in individual serving trays. City Fresh Foods uses Oliver Products’ Dual Oven-able Paper Trays that have three compartments, a leak-proof DuPont Mylar lid film, and can be re-heated in the oven or microwave. Meals are kept in temperature-retaining containers to ensure meals are delivered at appropriate temperatures.
Congregate Style Meals are delivered to sites that wish to serve the food themselves. Congregate style meals are packaged in hotel pans and sealed in plastic wrap and tinfoil. Congregate meals are held in warming boxes at a minimum of 200 degrees prior to departure from our commissary. All meals are transported to their destination in Cambro boxes or insulated bags.
Cold Items, including milks, desserts and bread, are packed straight from our refrigeration units to coolers and lined with PCM thermal tech –30 degree gel packs that hold items below 40 degrees for up to 8 hours to ensure appropriate temperature upon delivery.
City Fresh Foods has pioneered the development of ethnic menus for Senior Nutrition Programs, offering a variety of menus for seniors to choose from. City Fresh Foods currently has four core menus — Traditional, Latin, Caribbean and Russian — these menus are designed by our chefs and nutritionist and meet or exceed USDA Senior Nutrition Guidelines. We use the freshest and highest quality ingredients available and partner with local organic farmers in season. A nutritional analysis of our menus is conducted biannually by an independent nutritionist.
